This app is for those who would like to enjoy Shiretoko, a World Heritage site, to its fullest. Explore the nature, culture, history and everything else Shiretoko has to offer.
Shiretoko Peninsula, which is located in the north-east of Hokkaido and protrudes into the Sea of Okhotsk, is the southernmost place in the northern hemisphere where drift ice appears. It is registered as a World Heritage site for its extraordinary ecosystem that has its roots in the sea ice.
The town of Rausu, located on the southern side of the peninsula along the coast of the Nemuro Strait, is one of those places that is rare to find anywhere else in the world. Here, visitors are treated to sperm whale sightings in the summer, while white-tailed eagle and Stellers sea eagle can be seen flying above the drift ice in the winter.
This app was created by a group of reporters who hold an extensive knowledge of Shiretoko and have researched the area in depth. Please use this app to enjoy Shiretoko in whatever way you choose.
